Spiro’s Artist Profile

Spiro Kambitsis
Age: 31
From: Houston, TX

How It All Started

It all started around 1978, Spiro Kambitsis was born in Houston, Texas. In 1983, at age 5, Spiro was introduced to art and music. In 1988, at about the age of 10, Spiro really started to have a love for drawing. He noticed a fellow classmate sketching in class and instantly knew what he wanted to do. The classmates name was Eddie.

Inspiration

Eddie used to sit around and draw cartoons such as the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “The Transformers”, which were both very popular cartoons back in 88′. Spiro easily recognized the designs and characters and fell in love with the idea of creation. It allowed him to learn to be able to create simply from thought.

Determination

Although Spiro was not very good at it at first, he worked very hard at it. He would draw guns and vehicle with special weaponry modeling the ideas of some vehicles after the whole “Mad Max – Road Warrior” movies. Eventually he ended up taking as many art classes as he could in high school.

Taste of Ink

Around 1993, at the age of 15, Spiro was introduced to a Tattoo Artist by the name of Troy, aka “Flash”. Flash was in the area looking for tattooers to come work for him at his new shop. Spiro lived with his Best friend at the time, Justen. Spiro and Justen were hanging out at Justen’s aunt’s house, who happened to be a tattooer. Flash came to Justen’s aunt house to talk about the position, and while on his way out he met Spiro. Spiro had been drawing at Justen’s aunts house, when Flash walking by, and noticed Spiro’s talents with drawing.

The Journey Begins

Flash offered Spiro an apprenticeship. He was to make a deal that he would teach Spiro the craft in exchange for free labor, and having the ability to call on an extra hand at anything that needed to be done. Spiro agreed not knowing what was in store for his life and began working day in and day out for Flash. He was the first one there and the last one to leave. About 5 years later Spiro eventually went on to move out an venture on his own learning more and seeking more knowledge. When he is not with his Family, he now spends most of his time painting, drawing, tattooing and most of all creating.

Spiro has worked at many shops in the Houston area, including:
